The ASTM E783 standard is used to determine the air leakage of newly installed windows and doors. It focuses on measuring air leakage in the assembly rather than through the openings or surrounding construction. By sealing a chamber to the interior or exterior of the test specimen and measuring air flow, this testing can also detect potential air infiltration pathways. Extraneous air must be documented to accurately measure leakage from the specimen, and the acceptable flow rate is determined by subtracting the flow rate needed to maintain constant pressure from the extraneous air leakage.
