The ASTM E 1105 standard outlines the procedures for determining the water resistance of windows, curtain walls, skylights, and doors using a calibrated spray apparatus and applying uniform or cyclic static pressure. This standard is referenced in various other ASTM and AAMA standards and is used for field-testing (installed fenestrations) using either Procedure A (uniform pressure) or Procedure B (cyclic pressure). In Procedure A, consistent static pressure is applied for 15 minutes while in Procedure B, the pressure is cycled for 5 minutes on, and then 1 minute off, repeating this for three cycles, totaling 15 minutes. Testing is performed by applying water to the exterior of the test specimen while reducing the pressure inside using a temporary air chamber. The calibrated spray apparatus delivers water at a minimum rate of 5.0 gallons/ft²-hour.
